Aethic Reef safe sunscreen.

Story & Values

Our story

Take a leap

“Take a leap” is what we did when we entered a very competitive and crowded sunscreen market with some huge entrenched players. It is the ethos that sustains our continuing development and it is the hallmark of our customers who take a leap and come over to the blue side.

How our products are different.

Sunscreens are designed to protect your skin by filtering out the sun’s UV rays, whilst allowing you to tan if you want to. However, did you know that some sun filters may be photo-unstable? This means they stop working after just a short time in the sun. In comparison, Aethic’s sunscreen has filters that provide UVA and UVB protection whilst being photostable – so they work for longer when you’re out in the sun. Whilst it magically does that, it also leaves the ocean and marine life unharmed.

Why does this matter so much?

Your skin is your most important organ, so it deserves the best protection.

Yet the ocean, for there’s really only one, is just as vital, and it requires the best protection too.

Safeguarding our oceans is imperative as they play an unparalleled role in sustaining life on Earth. Oceans generate the oxygen we breathe, regulate the climate, and provide a habitat for an astonishing diversity of marine species. They serve as a vital source of food and livelihood for millions of people globally. The oceans act as a critical buffer against the impacts of climate change by absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Preserving these vast and intricate ecosystems is not just an environmental concern but also a matter of human survival. Our responsibility to protect the oceans extends beyond environmental stewardship; it is an investment in the health and resilience of our planet and future generations.

Coral reefs, often called the rainforests of the sea, are intricate ecosystems that support a staggering array of marine life. Coral covers just 0.1% of the ocean bed yet sustains 25-30% of marine life.   Comprising tiny coral polyps, these structures play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, offering habitats for countless species. Beyond their ecological significance, coral reefs provide sustenance and livelihoods for communities worldwide.

However, they face unprecedented threats,  endangering their delicate balance and the myriad species that depend on them. It takes just one drop of bad sunscreen to start a viral epidemic which can decimate a reef. Just one drop! Preserving coral reefs is not just about protecting an underwater spectacle; it’s a commitment to the health and resilience of our oceans and the well-being of communities connected to these extraordinary ecosystems.

Today, the team and I are proud to say that we are the only worldwide skincare company to have a scientifically proven and patented eco-friendly formula.

All of our sunscreen ingredients have been individually tested scientifically to make sure they’re safe for marine life.

The team and I want to make products that are kind to you and the world we live in, but we don’t just stop at our products – you help us further the cause too – each time you buy, we contribute to The Going Blue Foundation which in turn restores ocean health with actions like corabon.com

We’ve also been a leader in the field, encouraging others to commit to better ingredients, more sustainable packaging materials and transparency. It’s the only way to protect the environment, marine life and coral in particular.

We’re only just getting started and thanks for being part of the Aethic story. Together with you we can make a real difference.
